Prevent and Fight Cancer with a Plant-Based Diet

At Fred and Ricky’s, we know first-hand how beneficial a whole-food plant-based diet is. Along with disease-fighting and weight-loss advantages, plant-based diets rich in fruits, vegetables, beans and grains can help prevent cancer and help cancer patients lead a healthier lifestyle.

A study conducted by researchers at Loma Linda University examined the impact of various diet patterns throughout a 12 year span; 2002 to 2014. At the end of the study, they determined that people who eat a whole-food plant-based diet live longer, have fewer instances of cancer, weigh less and have less heart disease*. The researchers of the study concluded that plant protein, omega-3 and micronutrients, such as beta-carotene and Vitamin C, are the most beneficial aspects of a plant-based diet*.

We have mentioned the great health benefits of a plant-based diet before. However, it’s interesting to focus on how it can prevent and help treat cancer, specifically. It is scientifically proven that those who are vegetarian or who eat a diet that is primarily plant-based show death rates from cancer only about one-half to three-quarters of those of the general population*. Breast cancer rates are also extremely lower in countries with plant-based diets*. In addition, colon cancer is closely associated with meat consumption, which means plant-based eaters have significantly lower rates of colon-cancer*. This is because consuming a plant-based diet means taking in less fat and more fiber.

The plant-based approach focuses on strengthening the body, including the immune system and its abilities to heal and stay healthy while removing cancer-causing and cancer-promoting elements. In fact, all of the health benefits of eating a plant-based diet actually helps fight cancer as well. Losing weight, reducing the intake of growth stimulants, increasing the immune system, improving heart health and growing healthy intestinal bacteria all lead to a healthier lifestyle and cancer prevention.

At Fred and Ricky’s, we believe that food should taste good and it should be good for you. The foods we eat should nourish our body and help us avoid disease and cancer. This food should also be rich, savory and delicious! We promise to provide you with low-fat, whole-food, plant-based, no oil foods with real flavor and richness. If you have any questions about a plant-based diet or our menu, please contact us!
